WE should not be too perturbed over the resignation of Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek since what he did, though in a personal capacity, went against the principles of holding public office.

This is apart from the effect it would have had on health workers involved in prevention programmes pertaining to AIDS and other sexually-transmitted diseases. Obviously, health workers would have found it impossible to give advice on abstinence with a health minister engaged in an extra-marital affair.

Nevertheless, his admission and resignation is a breath of fresh air. I salute him for his courage and honesty, and for showing how public office holders should live up to the principles of accountability and responsibility.
