Current issues, feedback & complaints on public services in Malaysia
Dear Editor, IT is encouraging to know that three different production houses — KRU Films, Grand Brilliance and Line Clear Motion Picture — have teamed up to produce the movie, Duyung.
This effort is something we should look forward to as we will be able to see improve ments that raise the standard of film-making. Each of these pro duction houses have their own strengths and this has been proven with the success of the movies they previously produced.
KRU Films did well with their first movie, Cicakman, which managed to attract a large audi ence of all ages and reaped RM5.15 million in revenue.
The city of Metrofulus, created using CGI, mesmerized us into thinking that the location was a real place abroad when in real ity, the shooting took place in Malaysia.
It was the work of the cre ative director of the film, Yusry Abdul Halim, and his team who have succeeded in making the movie look realistic.
I believe Yusri will be able to do it again with Duyung and I have no doubts after reading the column by Meor Shariman, news editor of The Malay Mail, that special effects for the movie are realistic and as good as those in Hollywood films.
Grand Brilliance and Line Clear Motion Picture had worked as a team in producing a number of films such as Nana Tanjung and Otai, and it proves that their collaborative effort is worth while as these films have man aged to make a good profit.
I do not want to miss this movie as environmental issues are highlighted in the film. The idea of having the main character believe that a mermaid will appear if we keep the sea clean and safe is crucial in creating awareness about the im portance of maintaining a clean environment.
With the plot said to show case the relations between hu man and animal, it will help teach adults and youngsters to say no to animal cruelty.
With the different expertise and skills combined from these three production houses, the movie should be promising in terms of storyline, message as well as visual and sound effects.
I believe this movie will have fans flocking to the cinema making it a box-office hit. Let us lend support to our film industry by filling the seats during the showcase of Duyung in March.
