I WENT to SRJK(C) Lick Hung on Friday to enquire about registering my five-year-old son in the school. The school is a well-known in SS19 USJ, Subang Jaya and many parents try their best to get their children enrolled in it. Perhaps this is one of the reasons why I saw so much arrogance in the school office.

While I was waiting at the office counter, there were two clerks who were chatting away. One parent was enquiring about something from a teacher. There were no other parents around. There was also a teacher/administrator sitting in front of an officer’s room who seemed to be very busy with some matters.

Although they could see me waiting, none offered any help. Finally, I asked one of the clerks when registration would begin and what documents to bring along. She gave a brief reply and pointed to a nearby noticeboard. That board had no information about registration.

When I asked the clerks for any printed information to be given to parents, they replied there was none. When I persisted, I was told to bring my child’s birth certificate, latest electricity bill, a 9 by 4 envelope and some other documents. Then the two clerks hurried away for tea.

I then asked the teacher/administrator for the school telephone number and she told me the school would not entertain telephone enquiries. She told me to come for registration in March. I persisted in my request and was then given the number in a very rude and agitated manner.

I left the school fuming. I was shocked that there was so much arrogance and bad manners with the frontliners of this school. If they do not wish to be disturbed by enquiries about registration, they should have printed all the information in a leaflet to be distributed to parents.

I urge the headmaster of this school to ensure that the staff handle queries from parents in a courteous manner.
