Current issues, feedback & complaints on public services in Malaysia
I REFER to “PMR is just the beginning” (The Star, Jan 1) and I agree with the writer “Proud Father”.
I have a son who had A’s in just two subjects in the SPM and C6’s or P7’s in his eight other subjects.
He had P7 for Bahasa Malaysia, so he did not qualify for Form Six in a government school.
On the advice of his headmaster, I enrolled him in a private school for Form Six and he re-sat the BM paper in July.
He was told the July Paper for BM was tough but he scored an A. His STPM results were borderline, but he was accepted into one of our local universities.
After graduation, he went for interviews with a few multinationals. All wanted to take him in.
Today, he is earning more than most of his friends who scored straight A’s in their public exams.
I agree with “Proud Father” that with guidance, encouragement and the will to go forward, one can do better in later years.
I know of parents who compare how many times their children scored 100 marks but, to me, if my children have tried their best, that is enough.
ANOTHER PROUD PARENT,
Penang.
