I WRITE in response to “Abortion pills sold openly” (The Star, Jan 22) which left me shocked and appalled that such an item is available in private maternity clinics and sold to many young girls who resort to using these pills.

It saddens me that although we are now living in the digital and information age, promiscuity among young girls from all walks of life is becoming rampant to the point where they think it is acceptable for them to be promiscuous and do whatever they please to their bodies without knowing the consequences of their actions.

Do these girls know that their bodies are like temples which must be cared for and should not be taken for granted?

Do they know they are putting their health and lives at risk by consuming these abortion pills?

They may consider abortion pills as quick fixes but they may not realise what long-term effects those pills pose to them in the future, such as infertility, cancer, birth defects, or even miscarriage.

If we want to curb promiscuity among our girls, it’s time parents and society alike teach our children about caring for their bodies and tell them about the dangers and consequences of unprotected sex.

Moreover, we need to stop putting the blame on the media and celebrities for condoning this unacceptable behaviour.

I also believe there should be strict guidelines on the availability of abortion pills.

Moreover, the authorities need to take action against doctors and maternity clinics which sell abortion pills to young girls.
