WE refer to the issue of security at the departure hall of KLIA Ekspres in KL Sentral raised by F.P. of Kuala Lumpur (”We need more cameras” — NST, Jan 22). There are 19 surveillance cameras at the KL City Air Terminal Departure Hall in KL Sentral alone, with digital recording 24 hours a day.

Nevertheless, given the large area and structure, it is impossible to cover 100 per cent of the area. All these recordings are network-enabled and are accessible at any station by authorised personnel.

Our CCTV recordings showed a different story from what was reported. We have contacted the federal police to view the recordings to ascertain what actually happened.

During the incident, when F.P. approached our staff and asked to see the duty manager, he immediately went to notify the duty manager, who attended to F.P. within two minutes, as recorded in the CCTV.

In such incidents, we have always responded immediately to assist our customers in resolving their problems.

While we are looking at ways to increase security, we are also in constant contact with the police force to deter and apprehend such criminal elements at the KL City Air Terminal.

While we have taken every possible measure that we can to avoid such incidents, from our observations of previous cases, we have come to the conclusion that the loss is sometimes due to the negligence of the customers.

We would therefore like to remind the public not to leave their baggage and valuables unattended at any time.

There are announcements every 20 minutes over our public address system at KL City Air Terminal and signs reminding the public of this.
