I AM a mother of two teenage girls who base their daily lives on what happens on a particular radio station.

However, as I was driving them back from tuition at about 10.35pm on Jan 22, I heard something that was rather disturbing. A caller phoned in and said the word “s**t” very clearly on radio.

I am not saying that my kids have never heard the word before, but should such language be allowed on radio?

The influence radio has on the public is undeniable, even more so on young kids who listen to it all day.

I know that it was the caller and not the DJ who said the word, but I know there is a delay in broadcast that can allow the DJ to delete it, or perhaps bleep over the word. I remember Patrick Teoh doing this a lot when he was on Radio 4.

I hope all DJ’s can please remember the influence they have on young minds, and the example they set every day.

CONCERNED MOTHER,

Kuala Lumpur.
