Current issues, feedback & complaints on public services in Malaysia
I WOULD like to respond to SKY’s letter “Give bankrupts second chance to redeem themselves” (The Star, March 11).
I am very happy for him as AKPK has helped him to restructure his debts with the banks. AKPK saved him from going through all those worries, stress and nightmares that we have been through for the last few years.
My husband and his friends undertook joint partnerships in business and in purchasing properties. However, the economic crisis in the late 90s left us with a long list of creditors. So all the partners agreed to sign a Dissolution Agreement in 2000. Each partner will have a list of creditors to make repayments to.
Unfortunately, one of them stopped making payments to the bank, resulting in a court case. Although the loan agreement was signed by four partners, my husband was the first to be declared bankrupt. Currently, the bank is proceeding further against the other three.
We are so frustrated as we never stopped making our repayments for bank and personal loans for the last eight years and still continue to do so.
My husband came back to Malaysia on Feb 14. He was asked to go to the Immigration Office in Putrajaya to get a letter or he would not be able to leave Malaysia for work.
At Putrajaya, we were told to go to the Insolvency Department in Kompleks Pertama, Kuala Lumpur. I remember very well we reached the Insolvency Department at about 5pm on Friday, Feb 15. The officer in charge, Puan Sadila Surharti, stayed back till 6.30pm with us.
On Monday morning, we submitted the required documents and by noon on Tuesday we had received the approval letter from the Insolvency Department. We went to the Immigration Office in Putrajaya and within 10 minutes, we got the required letter. My husband was even able to renew his passport.
We were advised to make prompt repayments to the Insolvency Department. With a good record, we can apply for an early discharge from bankruptcy. Although I have an extra monthly repayment to make, I am very happy that my husband is able to continue working overseas to support the family.
Lastly, we would like to thank Haji Zahari Md Nor, Puan Sadila and the other staff at the Insolvency Department for their efficiency and great help.
WSL,
Port Dickson.
