I WHOLLY agree that Malaysia has one of the best airports in the region. However, I hope the authorities will look into the following problem if we really want to be on par with the other airports in the world.

My friend and I are frequent travellers and we use the KLIA frequently. Unfortunately, my friend has a walking disorder due to osteoarthritis and requires a wheelchair. To top it all, she is quite big.

Whenever we ask for a wheelchair, we get one easily. But more often than not, it does not fit her as it is far too small.

Another friend of mine from Delhi had the same problem when she was at the KLIA. She just does not want to come here any more.

I am wondering how those travelling from Western countries who are quite big manage to get into a wheelchair here.

Are we turning away tourists because of this? Their number might be small but, like the elections, every vote counts for the winner.

The wheelchair personnel says there is only one big one and it is often out of order or not to be found.

I also understand that this service is privatised and owned by an ex-minister. In other countries, they have wheelchairs where the handle on one side or both sides can be removed. I am sure we can find such wheelchairs in Malaysia too.

I hope the KLIA authorities will look into this matter seriously as this situation will definitely affect our tourism industry.

SHARON,
Kuala Lumpur.
