Current issues, feedback & complaints on public services in Malaysia
AS of today, over-the-counter payments will be rounded to the nearest five sen.
This means that our lowest unit of currency is five sen.
For the present time, rounding off will only apply for the total amount of a bill and not the individual items in that bill.
It could be possible, in future, for traders to display prices already rounded to the nearest five sen.
Therein lies the flaw of the system.
It is almost a certainty that traders will only round up and not round down the price of individual items.
How are consumers going to check whether the rounding up has been correct for displayed prices (up or down appropriately) for all individual items?
