Current issues, feedback & complaints on public services in Malaysia
YOUR report “CM warns developers to stick to law” (May 15) or face strict action is indeed praiseworthy. I hope the said developer would heed the CM’s advice and render some peace to the residents of the neighbourhoods. I also wish that Penang Island Municipal Council could apply the same principle to coerce some of unscrupulous developers at other construction sites within the residential areas to observe and adhere to rules of working hours as allowed.
Residents of Twin Towers and Coastal Towers living at Persiaran Tanjung Bungah areas had been suffering from unbearable noise disturbances for 18 months due to the developer at a construction site nearby working almost every day from as early as 7am to almost 9pm; and occasionally work at the site would drag till 11pm.
The chairman of Twin Towers Residents Committee had reported to MPPP, Immigration Enforcement Units and Chief Police Officer a year ago but to no avail. Policemen from Tanjung Tokong who visited the site said that action could be taken only if construction work continued after midnight.
Residents of Twin Towers have not only suffered from the endless noise, but also by barking dogs from a kennel adjacent to the residential buildings.
Recently, there have been police reports of break-in cases in the residential buildings and I strongly suspect that these burglaries were committed by some illegal immigrants engaged at the site.
In order to maintain a tranquil and safe environment in the neighbourhood, the relevant authorities of the new Penang state government should take appropriate action to carry out regular checks and raids on building sites.
