Current issues, feedback & complaints on public services in Malaysia
I REFER to the letter “Let them switch” (NST, May 16) from A.B. Ali of Arau and “Consider also those with the EPF” (NST, May 20) from S.C.K. of Petaling Jaya.
I agree that those civil servants who opted for the Employees Provident Fund have been ignored when making salary or pension revisions. It also looks like Cuepacs doesn’t look after the interest and welfare of those under the EPF.
Studies have shown how long people can survive with their EPF savings given the alarming rate of increase in the cost of living. Private companies do offer gratuity to their staff upon retirement apart from EPF savings.
We appeal to the government for a gratuity and medical benefits for retired employees who, knowingly or unknowingly of the consequences, had opted for the EPF scheme.
