THE Selangor government should not only be content with revealing the alleged abuses of its predecessor but also be bold enough to take legal action against the perpetrators if sufficient evidence can be gathered against them.

Who knows if evidence of wrongdoing was destroyed on the night of March 8 when the previous administration was voted out of office?

Like its counterpart in Penang, the new administration found, to its dismay, government offices with empty shelves and shredded documents.

However, many skeletons remained in the cupboard in the haste to clear out these offices. Let us hope in time, more wrongdoings of the previous administration will be revealed.

It has now come to light that all 54 Barisan Nasional representatives in the previous Selangor government used up a combined allocation of RM27 million for this year in the two months before the March 8 general election. Even the Sultan of Selangor was shocked by the revelation.

The former menteri besar says there is proof that the money was spent to help the people. The current state government should demand proof and see if the money did go to the deserving as claimed.

Also, the previous administration was involved in some megaprojects costing millions, which are now under-utilised and abandoned. The state executive council village was just one in a long line of controversial projects that did not benefit the people.

The latest revelation is of a state-owned subsidiary which was sold to another party for a pittance. Surely this warrants an investigation by the current Selangor government to find out who was responsible and who were the beneficiaries of this sort of lopsided deal.

Selangor is one of the richer states and should not be subject to such abuses. The officers responsible should be tracked down and charged with dereliction of duty.
