“WE LEAVE
the trees till they get old and rot. The trees die and fall and this affects the growth of others.” This shocking and mind-boggling statement was said by the mentri besar of Kedah in defence of logging in the state.

The Muda forest reserve is a few thousand years old. If the MB leaves the forest alone, it will still be there for another thousand years. Doesn’t the MB know that when a tree dies in the forest, the fallen tree will decay and add nutrients to the soil? A fallen tree will be a home to millions of insects, small animals and reptiles.

Once a forest is logged, not only the trees disappear but so will all the insects, small animals and reptiles .

The forest must be kept for future generations. The Kedah government must be more proactive. There are other ways and means to earn income for the state.
