Current issues, feedback & complaints on public services in Malaysia
I AM troubled by the reactions of some Terengganu politicians to the criticism triggered by the state’s purchase of Mercedes Benzes for RM3.43 million (”Politicians lash out at media” — NST, July 28).
At a time when many people are facing hardship because of rising prices, what the politicians said about the unnecessary expenditure on cars clearly shows them to be insensitive and arrogant.
“Do you think RM3 million is a big deal in the state?” asked one politician. Why, is the amount peanuts to him? Or is it minuscule compared to the amount he is making as a politician?
It is really unfortunate that the state government is spending the people’s money with no sense of accountability or transparency. I am apprehensive and cannot imagine what they will do with the millions (or billions?) in oil royalties that are forthcoming.
