Current issues, feedback & complaints on public services in Malaysia
I SOLD a property bought with a government loan last year. Everything was settled in January this year except that there was balance in my account as my instalment payments continued until the title of the property had been transferred and the outstanding loan settled.
My ordeal began in February. I called the housing loan department and asked for my refund, which was not a small amount. I double-checked with them to make sure they had my right address because the refund was supposed to be mailed to me.
I waited until April for it then called them again. To my surprise they said they had mailed my refund to my old address in March.
They also promised to cancel that payment and issue me a new cheque. How any clerk could have mailed the cheque to my old address was beyond my understanding since I had gone out of my way to keep the department informed about my address.
I have called them six times since then but till now the cheque is not forthcoming. Most of the officers who answered my calls gave sweet promises and assurances that they would look into it. In one instance, one officer said: “I will ask the clerk concerned to issue the cheque today and you will receive it in two weeks’ time.”
All I got was nothing.
My file number is 6816/1996/3. I want prompt action from those concerned as I will not hesitate to lodge a police report if my cheque is not forthcoming in the shortest time possible. I have lost faith in the credibility of this particular department.
