Current issues, feedback & complaints on public services in Malaysia
WE hope Ipoh city workers will act with more consideration for the health of residents during mosquito-fogging operations.
They are supposed to exterminate the mosquitoes, not the people.
Of late, the exercise has become more frequent and longer. We must remember that chemicals, even the “safe” ones, can pose adverse effects on people’s health when used in excess. Besides, there are other ways to combat mos- quitoes and pests.
Residents can be educated on keeping their surroundings clean and packing their rubbish properly so that it doesn’t get strewn about by stray cats and dogs, and making sure that no container is left lying around as a breeding ground for mosquitoes.
Finally, it would be appropriate if, when such exercises are conducted, residents are informed beforehand.
