Current issues, feedback & complaints on public services in Malaysia
I EMPATHISE with Marvindiran Rajandran of Ipoh who is happy with learning Maths and Science in English.
Like him, I do not agree with the idea of teaching these subjects in Bahasa Malaysia.
However, judging from the experience of my children, it seems that many teachers are actually not qualified or trained to teach in English.
If the teachers themselves are not good in English, how can they teach in English?
In my children’s Chinese school, teaching is done mostly in Chinese. I guess this is because teachers are more comfortable speaking Chinese. It’s such a pity this is happening.
I feel that if we want to improve English standards among our students or graduates, we have to make it a habit of having the children speak in English when they are in school.
Language is something that has to be practised, not merely taught.
