Current issues, feedback & complaints on public services in Malaysia
THE number of Chikungunya cases in Kota Tinggi is high. As residents, we expect to see efforts from government bodies to alleviate the situation.
All housing estates and kampung have been hit by the disease. No one seems to note the gravity of this issue.
According to a doctor from an outpatient clinic here, five out of 10 outpatients are suffering from Chikungunya.

Dear Sir,
I am in vector control field for the past three decades in a reputed organization Vector Control Research Centre (Indian Council of Medical Research) under the ministry of Health and Family welfare, Govt. of India. I have few tips for control of chikungunya for the benefit of the affected as well as risky community / Society in the world.
Vectors Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus are in close association with human habitation.
Those mosquitoes breed in clear waterand rain water collected habitats in and around every house.
Those mosquitoes will take mostly human blood within the house during day time and devlops eggs and deposit eggs on wet surfaces habitats available within the residences.
Those eggs can survive even 6 to 8 months in adverse dormant condition untill contact with rain water or water filled in domestic containers like drums, buckets, cisterns, cement tanks etc.,
Chikungunya Infected individuals are the source for initial infection of mosquitoes, latter those mosquitoes could transmit all theindividuals in a family and neighbours till the mortality of that single female mosquito.
Now,let us thnk, who will come to every house to get rid of those mosquitoes. The awareness on this issue is prerequiste and we haveto act accordingly to get ridof chikungunya.
Governmental role is very minimum and the organization could look after natural habitats of those mosquitoes include tree holes, tree stumps, plantaxils and other Government buildings.
We must remember, Dengue/ chikungunya is everybodys job not by the Government alone.
We pledge nowitself to act to prevent the spread of Chikungunya in the globe.
Suggestions are welcome,
Dr. T. Mariappan,
