Current issues, feedback & complaints on public services in Malaysia
FOR 11 years, I was a teacher in Indonesia. In October 2003, to help my brother further his studies, I came to Malaysia to work as a domestic helper.
I met my employer at the employment agency. She looked beautiful and kind. Her family lives in a big house. Her husband is a doctor and church leader. I had never liked cooking but I learnt to prepare food the way the family liked it. My employer was patient and gentle in teaching me my duties.
I have a bad temper. I would get impatient if they were late for meals. Sometimes, because each one in the family was so busy studying or working, the hot meals I laid on the table would turn cold. I would then show my displeasure.
Initially, I had planned to spend only two years in Malaysia. But five years have passed and I am sad to leave my employer. She is a wise woman — polite, honest and sincere.
My employer and her daughter did not feel it beneath them to help me dye my hair.
On my birthday, I was touched to see a cake on the table. Gathered around me were members of the family, friends and church members.
At work, I call her “madam”. Now that I am not working for her any more, I call her “mother”.
She is someone from whom I have learnt a lot. She is a noble woman.
She is never too tired for her children and husband, going the extra mile for them. I thank God for giving me a good employer.
