Current issues, feedback & complaints on public services in Malaysia
IT is good to hear that the Batu Pahat Municipal Council has asked all food outlets in the district to fix “grease traps” to maintain water quality. But, I feel this is not the only problem with food outlets in Batu Pahat.
The majority do not follow the basic requirements of a food outlet. Many of them have cement floors, when it is mandatory for food outlets to have tiled floors and walls.
The workers are not properly attired and the “kitchens” (where food is prepared) are a sight to behold. I couldn’t believe my eyes when one such outlet had a “B” certificate from the council pasted prominently on its wall.
With the economic downturn, more people are setting up food outlets. Many do not have the necessary permits. They open at night and wash their utensils by the drain.
Before a major outbreak of disease occurs, I appeal to the council and Health Department to carry out inspections and strict enforcement.
