Current issues, feedback & complaints on public services in Malaysia
IF we compare Malaysia and other Muslim countries, we should be proud that we have made great progress in many areas of human endeavour as a nation.
Why? Because the brand of Islam practised in this country is moderate, forward-looking and progressive. Ours is not one of extremism where Islam is interpreted from a narrow perspective.
The government should be commended for nipping in the bud any form of extremism using Islam as an excuse.
Those who have travelled to some other Muslim countries will go away feeling sad. Abject poverty, wars, diseases, illiteracy, lawlessness and cruelty to women characterise most of these countries.
After 51 years’ of independence, we have achieved the impossible because Malays, Chinese and Indians are prepared to make sacrifices and work together for the benefit of their children, grandchildren and country.
Hence, any edict passed by the National Fatwa Council must take into account Malaysia’s brand of Islam, which is in line with the spirit of Islam Hadhari.
Extremism in any form, including religion, brings harm, whereas moderation brings happiness.
