Current issues, feedback & complaints on public services in Malaysia
AS a student of AIMST University, I am proud of this institution of higher learning. It has great facilities, lecturers and deans. Kudos to the teaching staff who are doing a good job. I have no qualms about the quality and affordability of the education services. In fact, it is probably the only reason for me to continue my education here.
However, AIMST has to buck up on certain issues.
I stay at the hostel and I must say that AIMST should hire better caterers. The food needs drastic improvement. This is a university offering courses in medicine, science and technology. Therefore, the management should know better than to serve us excessively oily, salty and spicy food.
I understand the need to serve spicy food to accommodate the majority of the students. But would it be too much to ask the caterers to serve a greater variety of quality food? They should know that porridge with bits of fish, peanuts, long beans and omelette for dinner is not going to be enough, especially for growing young men.
Very often, students are disappointed by the quality of the food, but we do not have a choice because we have paid for the food as part of our hostel fees. Plus, most students are required to stay at the hostel for three years. By the end of the three years, I would not be surprised if students suffer from health problems as a result of the food served in the hostel.
Another issue I would like to bring up is the excuses and false promises given to students. Students are asked to come back later for mail collection for no apparent reason.
We were also told that food stalls would be set up, instead of the current system of food from caterers, but that never took place.
In addition, students are charged different rates for different types of hostel. I was told that the ones paying more are allowed to buy their own refrigerators.
I pay less for my hostel fees. But my hostel can accommodate 12 students so we pay more collectively than the students who are staying at the more expensive three-person hostels. And yet, we are not allowed to have a refrigerator, which is a necessity.

i truly support this comment… as i myself, a student of aimst, have lost 7 kg in a month just because the food is insufficient… i even got stomach ache and food poisoning twice in the recent month… so aimst should really improve their food service… besides, life in aimst is so boring coz there are no clubs or associations or any activity at all in the so-called university… furthermore the campus is so isolated that to get to town area we need to take a public bus and the time consumed is about 30minutes(aimst didnt even provide transport to town areas although they charge the students the fee for transport)… also the syllabus(IT) taught in aimst is damn out of date… by far for the course i’m studying the text book used is ten years back and i really doubt that i’ll be using those taught in class when i come out to work later(the lecturers are “so proud” enough to say that they are teaching the latest syllabus, even the dean himself)…. seriosly, is their brain so degraded that they cant differentiate what they are teaching are seriously out-of-date??? man… they are really pissing the students and parents off… no wonder no one wants to study in aimst… ppl would rather study in other places than to study in aimst even though the fees are higher….

yes kei kei..transport is not provided….and the food :- extremely lousy…but lecturers is not that bad as “aimst student ” said….so far in my course the lecturers are good enough and i can assure u that teaching method is very good. yes,,,,one more thing…the university dont allow to form any association or club invoving the race…such as chinese association, or indian cultural club or malay umno club…sounds weird rite…coz even in government university…those club or societies existed…i would say..think twice before u decide to step in this uni

usually the food is disgusting, especially the indian food, and i’m indian so if they say that the food is catered for indian tastes, then that’s nonsense, i’ve lost at least 5 kilos because of this
public transportation is alright so the university doesn’t need to provide transportation, regarding the 30 minutes thing, sometimes driving by car also can take 30 minutes depending on which route you take, so pls don’t complain about that
the lecturers have better attitude than the majority of the students, pls don’t complain about them, in other universities the lecturers are not as helpful, aimst students are retarded and have no respect for their lecturers, how come nobody is complaining about the students huh?
the admin staff are idiots, it’s like they were hired just because of their ethnicity even though they are really bad at their jobs, i would prefer if they hired local people from sungai petani and not bring in people from other places just because of their ethnicity, build goodwill with the people of sungai petani la
there are clubs/associations and they regularly have activities
in conclusion, there are better places to study/enjoy university life but in aimst you get what you pay for (a bit more in fact), except where food is concerned,
also, i agree that some of the IT facilities are not new, but not new doesn’t mean outdated, no self respecting university would have outdated facilities

AIMST is a good place to study in.
However, there are some issues that AIMST need to buck up on.
First, with the food.
For hostellers, I don’t understand why they do not allow us to pay separately for the food. AIMST is eating A LOT of our money. Serving cheap veges and with lack of nutrient. I have a fried who had lost 10kg consuming AIMST food most of the time..
Secondly, with the laundry. YES, AIMST is swallowing up our money again. You can only send 5kg/week. No problem with that. But, if i send more than that, they ask me to pay. If I don’t send for one month, they say it’s your problem. Where is the refund? Apparently, AIMST management is the one getting the money which we pay not the doby. I guess it’s the same for the food.
Thirdly,AIMST really does know how to attract customers.
When I am dealing with Students Affairs, they treat students with no respect. Never have I seen people elsewhere treat students with no respect. Especially the Indian men who work in the Students Affairs. For those AIMST student, it’s the guy who sits on the right just as you enter the office. Disrespectful. The way he talked to me, he sounded very rude, arrogant and disgusting. I dealt with him twice. ANd, twice he talked to me in a very disrespectful way. In fact, most of everyone who worked in AIMST talked very impolitely to students. Just ask the students about the people who serve food to students. Very impolite. However, when you make a call to their office, you are given a polite and helpful treatment. As though they are covering the real truth with a superficial lie trying to attract more people to the university.
Please staff of STUDENT AFFAIRS, be polite to students. Even 5 year olds know how to treat people with respect.

hi i m a student of aimst…ive had it wit the aimst management…especially the security……who the hell they thnk they r….the prioritize the staffs and not students.. i thought tht the student r the most important people n without us the university will not exist….we pay thousands but made to walk in the rain n hot sun from one end of the cmps to park and the other end whr the faculty is…no other university has such dumb n stupid parking system which gives importance to staffs…not only tht the other day in the library i notice tht the staffs in the library being very rude to students and threatening, shout at the student publicly for making a small mistake…..isnt tht embarrassing… is tht how u treat a university undergraduate? the other stuff is tht the lifts in the medical faculty is not being operated js to save electricity bills…. even tough i m nt a medical student its a stupid reason 4 nt letting students use the lift…. i thnk AIMST needs a new management!!!!! a much more qualified and experienced management… i have no complaints against the lecturers…they r doin a very good job….i just hope the higher authority will look in to the matter as the students r your only customers….and we have the rights to demand…thank u.

dear ppl…..
i am doing medicine in aimst……as far as the teaching is concerned its on par with any world class institute. i was for a short period in gov u. trust me it sucks………lectures actually dont care but here we have world class lecturers.
now the sucky part……..aimst staff…this lady in the deans office miss vino needs to learn respect and how to treat students……i mean u work for us and we are not obliged to you in any way so dont show us your fang. MINUS THE SUCKY ADMIN AIMST IS WORLD CLASS ON PAR WITH ANY UNIVERSITY,,,,,,,,,MEDICINE IN AIMST AND LECTURES ARE DAMN GOOD.
PLZ PROVIDE TRANSPORT TO DISTRICT HOSPITALS—DONT EXPECT THE STUDENTS TO FIND THEIR OWN MODE OF TRANSPORT…….DRIVING EARLY MORNING TO HOSPITAL AND DRIBING BACK ALL THE WAY IS DANGEROUS AND DEADLY…..DONT WAIT TILL SOME ONE DIES…………..

hi everyone..
i am a medical student in aimst..and i have many friends pursuing degree in medicine in various universities and in various countries..comparing the syllabus,i would say aimst is on par with many other medical institutions..the lecturers are very helpful and dedicated..
well..about the food.i used to be a hostelite and found the food very distasteful and unhealthy..i have had food poisoning several times..after that i shifted out to a different housing area with access for various types of food..now i have no problem at al…for those who wish to come to aimst, you can get yr own transport n shift out elsewhere.dont be afraid of driving around, you’ll easily get used to the roads bcz its a small town..
as rahul suggested above, providing transport to district hospitals will be very convenient for the students..as not only it saves time,it is also less dangerous.
admin is probably the worst thing abt aimst..some staffs are really rude..
and abt the hostelites who are not allowed to keep a fridge, what happend to the fridges they used to provide?the hostel fees are really ridiculous..last time when the students used to study in amanjaya campus n had to stay in blm hostels, the fees was 450 per month, and tat was inclusive of transport..n they had a bus going to town every week..it is understandable tat the fees were quite high bcz they rented those houses from other ppl..now we have shifted to our very own campus, and why is the hostel fees still so high?they hav not provided a clear description of what are the students paying for..lets say food costs rm10 a day..means in a month it is 300 only for food..laundry rm5 per week, makin it rm20 per month..internet rm50..so,the rent for the room plus bills is rm80? mind you, there are actually 4 students sharing tat small room..and it is quite congested in there..
renting a room outside the campus would range from rm90-150 per month..you wil have a bigger room plus privacy..and u can buy your own fridge n cooking utensils..hence u can save more money..
entertainment wise, sungai petani is quite a boring place..but it is jus a 40minutes drive away from penang..where u can go shopping, movies n other stuff..however there’s one shopping mall in sp - central square..where u can go for movies, bowling, shopping n fast food outlets..sp is not that bad anyway..i would say it is a conducive place for students..
and dr.madhukar shinde..we welcome you to aimst..looking forward to your clinical teachings and lectures

Sounds like a kelam kabut university..like TAFE?…
Sooner or later Lecturers may cabut and leave students in the lurch who will then be scrambling to do credit transfer. Why do they keep building campuses in jungles miles away from the very hospitals students are supposed to learn from. This ultimately will increase costs, knock on effects, etc etc.
By the looks of the politics looks like UMNO/MARA/KKM/ or someone other then Samy Velu may have to take over this campus in the jungle. Heck. Ultimately students become the victims, as always.

one very strong advantage bout dis uni r d lecturers..i guess.,,which is the MAIN REASON y dis uni has become an option 4 me.but the facilities,,umm i heard 2 very contrast views about it.sum say the facilities r hi-tech …i was happy…but sumone very recently whom i met had to throw the bomb by saying dat the facilities aren’t enough..ok,so that juz defeats d purpose of havin dem.( r they juz 4 show??)im yet 2 discover.

i am not a student there but i have two of my children there. Generally they are satisfied with the edu standard and the facilities available. Food is something that no two people will agree on always. Definetly the standard of food offered can be improved by just changing the caterers often so the students dont get sick of the same style of cooking.Another area the uni have to improve itself is the admin side it really sucks.I was told and assured about getting results posted to my home of my boys performances but even after calls and letters they dont respond.Maybe they forgot to include the charges for these when they calculated the fees, any way these are actually small matters considering the whole picture and comparing with the others. The price is good for the quality of education available ,food problems can be resolved by just eating outside whenever you feel like and it is quite cheap if you compare with other places if my children were to be studying in kuala lumpur or P J or Subang Jaya so is the lodging and transport . How about the other influences in the major towns and the cost. Are we going to complain that the price of just one small pack of nasi lemak with no chicken or chicken rice with a drink cost more than 6 ringgits in KL PJ & Subang Jaya.
I would just say outside is better, but you or your parents pay through thier noses for all this so you actually get less of these nonsence. In AIMST the charges for food and lodging is cheaper than what you would pay for lodging alone in the other towns . IF your parents can afford and the quality of edu is better than the wisest move is to find your self in other places of your choice. For me my children dont complain about the food anymore because they stay outside the campus now and one would be finishing their MBBS in less than 2 years from now till than WE believe AIMST is the best.
