Current issues, feedback & complaints on public services in Malaysia
LAST year, when the price of petrol kept rising, the government gave a RM600 rebate beginning April last year when one renewed his road tax.
When I applied for the rebate in April, I was told by the post office that I wasn’t entitled to it as I had renewed my road tax in March. My road tax expired on March 24.
I was told to apply for the rebate the following year (this year). Every Malaysian would then have had the chance to obtain this rebate.
Since late last year, the price of petrol kept dropping and the government decided to stop the rebate. The deadline for this was extended to April 14 to enable those who had not received the subsidy last year to claim it this year.
As I was out of the country, I renewed my insurance and road tax on April 3, which was before the deadline of April 14.
However, when I applied for the rebate (which was days before the deadline), I was told by the post office that I was not entitled to it as my road tax was renewed on April 3.
They told me that although the deadline was April 14, I should have renewed my road tax by March 31. Now, why give a deadline of April 14 if you expect people to have done everything by March 31?
