Current issues, feedback & complaints on public services in Malaysia
I READ with hope and gladness Datuk Liow Tiong Lai’s comments in “Shorter service for new docs” (Feb 8). It is a kind and humane ruling to allow housemen on call through the night to work until noon the following day and also to give them a day off after six days of tagging.
According to the good minister, a circular to this effect was sent to all government hospitals last month. Strangely up to today, hardly any pengarah (director) is adhering to the ruling.
Such action on the part of the pengarah amounts to insubordination. It is great for circulars to be sent out, but shouldn’t there be some kind of follow-up … some enforcement?
